Casey W. Foltz       ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

I was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1967, and have lived here my whole life. This is the area I know and love.  I grew up in Salisbury, Maryland, went to school in Salisbury, and now teach fines arts to others who live in Salisbury.  I have always enjoyed the unique opportunities available to artists of the Eastern Shore.  Not many places allow the artist the space necessary to create.  When I am not teaching art, I enjoy being outdoors and observing nature.  I am an avid waterfowl hunter and love being on the marsh.

I have always had an interest in art.  Ever since I was a child, I have always liked to draw and create things.  I can remember my grandfather, who was a talented woodworker, showing me how to draw the outline of a duck at an early age.  In school I excelled in art classes, even winning first place for a painting I did during my senior year of high school. After high school, I won a local art scholarship and enrolled at Salisbury State College and declared my major as art.  During my junior year of college, I transferred to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to earn a degree in art education.  This degree allowed me the opportunity to teach others what I love to do.  Upon graduation, I began teaching fine arts at James M. Bennett High School, and have been doing so for the past sixteen years.

While teaching, I established Lighthouse Studio in 1991 as my very own professional fine art studio.  The studio was run as a business out of my home.  Through the studio I created original works of art as well as commissioned pieces. I also produced fine art limited edition prints, public murals and even a couple of public sculptures.  On Saturday mornings, I offered private art lessons to a few students who wanted to perfect their artistic skills. Over the last few years I have been working on my latest series called "Shore-Scapes".   These Eastern Shore landscapes and seascapes attempt to show the unique relationship of sky, to land, to water, which is such an important part of the Eastern Shore.  All of the images in my work are created from various locations around the Shore and are presented in a way to showcase the beauty of God’s creation.
